Intermediate Football Final will be all Kenmare District affair
IT’S an all Kenmare District Castleisland Mart Intermediate Championship final following semi-final victories by Kenmare and Templenoe in the semi finals at Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday afternoon last.
After a shaky start, Kenmare recovered to graft out a deserved seven points victory (2-13 to 1-9) over Desmonds in the opening game. Desmonds had the better start but David Hallissey’s goal put Kenmare five points to the good at the break. Another goal from Kevin O’Sullivan at the three quarter stage saw Kenmare home against a Desmonds side who have now tasted defeat at the semi final stage of this competition for a third year in a row.
A late rally by Templenoe yielded the two winning points as the All Ireland Junior champions set up a meeting with their neighbours Kenmare with victory over an unlucky Gaeltacht side in the second semi final in Fitzgerald Stadium (2-7 to 0-11). Denis O’Neill and Pat Spillane had spectacular goals as Templenoe led by four points at the break. An Ghaeltacht dominated long periods of the second half but it took them until four minutes from time to draw level, however late points by the Spillanes, Killian and John, saw Templenoe through to their third consecutive County Club final even though they had to survive a very late scare when Oigí Ó Sé’s shot went inches wide of the bottom of the post.
Glenbeigh-Glencar and Na Gaeil qualify for Junior Premier Final
GLENBEIGH-GLENCAR and Na Gaeil have qualified for the Castleisland Mart Junior Premier Final following semi final victories over Ballydonoghue and Listowel Emmets respectively at Tralee’s Austin Stack Park on Sunday last.
Na Gaeil were comprehensive winners of the opening game of the double bill and were in control by the interval after Seamus O’Neill’s goal put them eight points to the good. Two further goals at the three quarter stage from Mike Griffin saw the Tralee side secure a final spot on a 3-14 to 1-13 scoreline.
A goal from Caolim Teahan put Glenbeigh six points clear in the second semi final but Ballydonoghue hit back with two goals before the break from Jack Foley and Paul Kennelly to tie the scores at the interval. The winners, with Gavan O’Grady in fine form from play and frees, added on the points in the second half to clinch their final spot with three points to spare, 1-14 to 2-8.
