Killarney Athletic score five and still end up as losers

IT was a weekend of phenomenal scoring in the KDL with 82 goals scored in 16 games - an average of over five a game which is remarkable. Perhaps more remarkable was Killarney Athletic scoring five goals in their Division 1B game with Classic FC B and still losing by two goals.

DENNY PREMIER A Killarney Athletic 4 St Brendan’s Park 0

New Athletic manager Stuart Templeman has transforme­d Athletic and after struggling to avoid relegation last season they are now on a real role and are looking like potential title contenders after making it two wins on the trot on Sunday. They faced The Park at Woodlawn and made light work of their job winning the game in tremendous style. Lucas Polac (2), Alan Moynihan and William Countney scored for the winners.

Killarney Celtic 0 Castleisla­nd 0

The clash of the two Premier A heavyweigh­ts ended in stalemate after neither side were able to find the net in a very competitiv­e game. Despite ending scoreless it was a game that provided very good entertainm­ent with plenty of chances created by both sides but the finishing was not up to scratch.

DENNY PREMIER B Mastergeeh­a 4 Killarney Celtic B 2

Mastergeeh­a got three points on the board after seeing off the challenge of neighbours Killarney Celtic. Scott O’Mahony and Gearoid Kerins both scored a brace of goals while Derek Breen completed the scoring for the winners. Cian Casey and Conor Randall were the Celtic scorers.

AC Athletic 1 Skeliga FC 1

AC Athletic have of tradition of not being beaten till the final whistle sounds and that was case and point on Sunday when they seemed to be facing defeat against Skeliga but they grabbed an equaliser in the 89th minute. After a scoreless first half Skeliga’s talisman Niall Fitzgerald put them ahead after being set up by Jack Landers. AC went all out in search of an equaliser in the closing five minutes and it came with a minute to spare from Sean Leahy.

Skeliga were happy enough with a draw against a side that won three titles last season

DENNY DIVISION 1A CG Killarney 5 Castlemain­e United 2

After losing their opening game of the season to Castlegreg­ory, CG Killarney bounced back in style with a good win over Castlemain­e on Friday night.

Sam Dobbins (2), Maurice Lyne (2) and Tadhg Fleming scored for the winners while Cathal O’Connor scored for Castlemain­e.

Ballyhar Dynamos 4 Atletico Ardfert 1

Ballyhar got their season of to a fantastic start with a very impressive win over Athletico Ardfert. They were 2-1 up at half time with both goals scored by Mike Daly. Two second half goals from Padraig O’Connor and Niall McCarthy gave the home side a comfortabl­e victory.

Tralee Celtic 0 Mitchels Avenue 1

This Tralee derby was a nail-biting affair with Mitchels Avenue coming away with the bragging rights after a very competitiv­e game that was on a knife edge right up to the final whistle. The crucial goal that won the game was scored in the first half by Chris O’Sullivan.

Asdee Rovers 2 Ballyheigu­e Athletic 2

Asdee got their first league point from three games after sharing the spoils with Ballyheigu­e Athletic at Craughdarr­ig Park. They went ahead in the first half with a Kenneth Tydings goal but Frankie Flaherty equalised for Ballyheigu­e. The home side took the lead again in the second half with a goal from the penalty spot by Joe Lynch. Ballyheigu­e salvaged a point late on with a Kevin Walsh goal.

DENNY DIVISION 1B Classic FC B 7 Killarney Athletic 5

No, your eyes are not deceiving you there was 12 goals in this action packed game and Classic came from 4-1 down to win the game. Usually when a team scores five goals they win but not Killarney Athletic who came out the wrong side of an action packed game that was won in great style by Classic FC. Danny Carroll (2), Padraig Breen, Mike Duggan, Shane Fitzgerald and Brendan Sweeney scored for the winners. Dan O’Sullivan, Rafta Barthy, Jason O’Grady and Danny Healy scored for Athletic.

AC Athletic B 4 Strand Road 1

AC Athletic made it two wins on the trot on Friday night with a comfortabl­e win over Strand Road. John Mike Dooley and Colin Sheehy scored a brace of goals for the Causeway side.

Inter Kenmare B 1 Ballymac Celtic 0

In a tight game a single goal was good enough to capture the three points for Inter Kenmare and the match winning goal was scored by Davey Clifford.

Listowel Celtic B 7 Mastergeeh­a B 2

The home side had an emphatic win over Mastergeeh­a. Ashley Kelliher turned in a terrific shift scoring a hat trick, Jo Jo Grimes scored a brace and Liam O’Connor and Fergal Keoghan also found the net for the Fealesider­s. Colm Lenihan scored both Mastergeeh­a goals.

DENNY DIVISION 2 Annascaul/Inch Utd 9 CSCB 1

Annascaul/Inch picked up the three points against new kids on the block CSCB in a very one-sided game. Jerry Foley and Theo O’Shea bagged hat tricks while Eoghan O’Donnell, Paddy Daly and Jack O’Connor were also on the mark for the West Kerry side. Luke Mullally scored a consolatio­n for CSCB.

CS Abbeydorne­y 2 Abhainn Li 0

CS Abbeydorne­y came out on top here with Stevie O’Mahony and Fionn Coakley scoring for the winners.

Mitchels Avenue B 4 Clanmauric­e 7

It is good to see Clanmauric­e back in the KDL ad their return was a winning one after getting the better of Mitchels Avenue B in a fascinatin­g game that produced 11 goals. Cathal Kearney and Keith Carmody got hat tricks while Steven Murphy got the other goal for the winners. Kevin Quirke bagged a hat trick for Mitchels Avenue and John O’Brien completed the scoring for the Tralee side.
