Tralee Food Festival a gourmet’s paradise

- BY STEPHEN FERNANE

TRALEE has tasted sweet success on many occasions during its 800 year history, but the Kerry capital certainly took things to a tasty level during last weekend’s Tralee Food Festival when scores of happy and hungry foodies enjoyed a dazzling array of succulent treats throughout the town.

Now in its second year, the festival is growing from strength to strength with local food outlets providing a vast selection of treats and offers to help celebrate their love for food.

Local food outlets, restaurants, bars and hotels weren’t found wanting as they offered special menus for guests, while those who enjoy a bit of a mystery were able to set off on an enjoyable craft beer trail and a tasty food trail with 13 outlets to choose from. Local chefs also put on a sterling display of culinary skill with an enjoyable and informative range of cooking demos. A Farmers’ Market also took place over the weekend displaying the finest wares and food produce the county has to offer.

President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey, said the festival was a major success and is growing in terms of its popularity.

“We’re very happy with it, particularly on the Saturday with the market and food fair. The Taste Trail also went down well with people. The Taste Trail is confined to Tralee Chamber Alliance members only and we would encourage more business to get involved for next year by becoming members. Huge thanks is also owed to David Scott who organised the entire event,” said John.
