Lowry sings praises of Tralee Golf Club

-

ONE of Ireland’s top golfers was in Kerry over the weekend and, despite having on some of the most beautiful courses around the world, he still proclaimed one of our own humble courses as one of the best that he had ever played on

Shane Lowry, ranked 67 in the world and who recently beat out a stellar field to finish as runner up in US Open, put his woes at missing out on a Ryder Cup spot behind him as he spent the weekend in Kerry, playing at both the Tralee Golf Club (TGC) and the Waterville Course with a number of friends.

“He was out on the course for about four and a half hours, he loved his time here in Tralee; he thought that the course was fantastic and he thought that the hospitality in Kerry was second to none” said Gerard Carey, an employee at TGC who met Shane on Sunday. “He was down with a couple of friends; he’d been promising the lads that he’d be down the last couple of years,.”

“He’s great friends with all the Kerry footballers, with Mikey Sheehy and Darragh Ó Sé especially –he loves Kerry football, obviously he supports Offaly first and foremost.”

Meanwhile, Mr Carey also praised recently deceased Arnold Palmer, whose death inspired the US Ryder Cup winning team

“Tralee was the first course in Europe that Arnold Palmer designed, he loved the place. He hadn’t been here now because of his health but he helped to put Tralee on the map with his name; we’ve a picture up and we’ve candles around it at the moment,” he finished.
