Build4Life ‘Run the Runway’ prepares for take-off at Kerry Airport

-

A REMINDER that the Kerry Airport / Build4Life run will take place on this Friday, October 7, at 8.30pm along the two kilometer runway under lights. The event, which is sponsored by the Garvey’s SuperValu Group, will offer participants a rare experience and opportunity.

“It is hoped to raise a significant sum for this locally based charity which has been to the forefront in raising funds to develop life saving isolation inpatient and outpatient facilities,” said a spokesman for Castleisland Rugby Club – which is promoting the unique event.

“These facilities will benefit both adults and children with CF attending Cork University Hospital which allows them to enter the hospital environment free from the risk of cross infection.

“It’s the first of its kind to take place at Kerry Airport. Similar events have been held at Shannon and Knock airports and have been hugely successful.

“The emphasis will be on enjoyment on the night and all fitness levels will be catered for. Participants are being invited to run, jog or walk and its all about getting out and doing a little to improving fitness and staying healthy.

“We are extremely grateful to Kerry Airport for facilitating our event and to the the Garvey’s SuperValu Group as our main sponsor. We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Lee Strand and all our local contributors,” the spokesperson concluded.

Participants can register online at www.eventmaster.ie before midnight on Thursday.

A post event party / disco will be held at The Crown from 10pm with a live rock band from 10pm with free food and a John McCarthy driven disco until late.

While Joe Browne is correctly and generally credited as being the driving force behind the massive success of the Build4Life campaign for proper isolation facilities at Cork University Hospital, he quickly deflects the limelight to the memory of the late Mary Hand.

“Dingle woman, Mary Hand died of Cystic Fibrosis in September 2006. She was a major and inspirational figure behind what we now have in Cork University Hospital.”

The special Ward B was opened at CUH with the backing of a €2.5m injection from the Build4Life Charity in October 2015.
