Gneeveguilla take the title

PLAYED in Fitzgerald Stadium on Thursday evening, this MD O’Shea, East Kerry Under 16 Division 3 final, between Gneeveguilla and Glenflesk was a cracking game with great skills on show.

Glenflesk got off to the better start and had 1-3 on the scoreboard, before Gneeveguilla got off the mark. However, Gneeveguilla grew into the game building a lead they did not relinquish.

Dara Fleming had two Glenflesk points on the board from frees before he pounced on a loose ball to find the Gneeveguilla net on the eighth minute. Glenflesk midfielder Sean Doherty added a mighty point from 45m out – 1-3 to 0-0.

Gneeveguilla opened their account when half back Paul O’Leary attacked, kicking a fine point, followed by two points from play by Evan Cronin. Gneeveguilla enjoyed a good period of play as half forward Cathal McCarthy made a great run in along the Stand side and coolly finished to the Glenflesk net, to level the game – 1-3 a piece.

It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the half. Gneeveguilla went ahead with and Evan Cronin point. Glenflesk replied with points by Dara Fleming and Seamus O’Leary – 1-5 to 1-3 in favour of Glenflesk. In the last minutes of the half, Gneeveguilla’s Evan Cronin kicked two frees to leave Gneeveguilla ahead 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Gneeveguilla started the second half brightly, increasing their lead with two quick Evan Cronin points David Gleeson also kicked one after a strong run up the middle – 1-9 to 1-5.

Dara Fleming and Lorcan Keane then traded points. Gneeveguilla led by four, 1-10 to 1-6 a lead they did not relinquish. It was tit for tat. Evan Cronin, pointed, a good finish after a direct run.

Dara Fleming pointed a Glenflesk free. Sean O’Keeffe and Evan Cronin pointed for Gneeveguilla before Sean Doherty pointed for Glenflesk.
