Garfiney Bolt wins main event for Slattery and Ó Loingsigh

-

TRALEE trainer, Anthony Slattery, is enjoying quite a good year at Tralee Track and he sent out Garfiney Bolt to win the hottest race at Friday’s meeting for Dingle owner, Tiernan O Loingsigh.

The race in question was for A1/ A2 class over 570yds and Garfiney Bolt (trap 6) had it all to do when trailing Coolhill Bound by three lengths rounding the third bend. However, she picked up really well from this point onwards and, challenging on the wide outside coming home, she got up for a thrilling head victory over Coolhill Bound in 30.88.

Over 325yds (S2 class), a superb run of 17.69 was produced by Mad About Sally, which Johnny O’Sullivan trains in Castleisland for PJ Dolan, of Claregalway. Ballyhale Brian broke in front from trap 2, but Mad About Sally (trap 5) shot into the lead around the opening bend and she went on to score by a length from Black Ranger, to break her duck at the fifth attempt.

Killarney owner, Mrs Patricia O’Flaherty, enjoyed a 14/1 double. She won the first race (S8/ S10 325) with Lakota Promise (2/1), which pulled back the front-running Always Had One and beat her by three-quarters of a length in 18.12, and she won the seventh race (A3 525) with Lakota Saturn (4/1), which was five lengths behind Shronedraugh Dan rounding the third bend and managed to beat him by a short head in 29.31. Both greyhounds ran from trap 6.

Another O’Doherty runner, Lecheile Mochara, a litter brother to Lakota Saturn, was 5/4 favourite to win the tenth race (A4 525), but nothing stood a chance with Sleamhain Leat, which led off the first bend and won by six lengths in 28.95.

The fifth race (A6/ A7 525) saw Ballyhone Spirit take a very bad fall when challenging the front-running Baltovin Millie midway on the back straight and the greyhound behind him, Brackers Blackie, had to make a spectacular leap over him. After that, Baltovin Millie was able to win unchallenged by ten lengths from Brackers Blackie in 29.27.

Other winners: College Bell, 29.17; Knockavahig Gent, 18.17; Toms Vic, 29.11; Anascaul River, 28.96.
