Forestry available to all landowners

-

IN existence since 1986 SWS Forestry has always believed in the potential of Forestry as an indigenous recourse and how it can play a significant role in helping Ireland in the good times as well as the more challenging times.

The forestry scheme 2014-2020 opened on the first of January 2015 to not only encourage farmers but all landowners to plant their land by providing 100% establishment costs and the same 15 year annual forest premiums for all landowners and farmers are eligible to claim Basic Payment Scheme on top of forest premium.

The removal of the requirement for farmer status has now opened the door to an income from the land once again to those who entered the early retirement scheme which has now finished for most applicants. These types of landowners are glad of this new option as many were not initially aware of the restrictions they placed on themselves when entering the early retirement scheme. The new forestry scheme has also opened the door for a whole new clientele of investors who can get into forest ownership. Establishment costs of forestry are usually 100% covered meaning there is no cost to the landowner apart from the capital cost of purchasing the land. Investment in forestry is a safe investment with a 4-6% return on your money with minimal risk. Furthermore there are no labour demands required from the landowner as all maintenance work required on the forest is done by SWS Forestry.
