The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Two Kerry eateries make Michelin Guide
TWO Kerry restaurants enhanced their reputations this week having been added to the Michelin Guide for Ireland and the UK. Giovannelli Restaurant, Killorglin and The Chart House Restaurant, Dingle, both picked up prestigious Michelin ‘Bib Gourmand’ listings which are awarded to restaurants offering exceptional food at moderate prices. To be listed in the world’s most famous culinary bible is an exciting reward for the hard work and dedication involved in preparing and serving food. To date there are only 13 ‘Bib Gourmand’ listings in Ireland which adds to the achievement even more.
“One of the reasons why we got this award is because we grow everything here at home. There’s nothing frozen and it’s all fresh produce which comes straight from the Giovannelli garden to the Giovannelli Restaurant and all our pasta is handmade on the premises. But we’re not just an Italian restaurant as we also source, prepare and serve local produce like steak, lamb, lobster and fish,” said Antoinette, who together with husband, Daniele, run Giovannelli Restaurant.
Over in The Chart House Restaurant, Jim McCarthy was also delighted with the accolade. “To be a recipient of an accolade such as the Michelin ‘Bib Gourmand’ for eighteen years on the trot is not down to any measure of luck. It’s without question down to solid intent, hard work and sheer commitment,” said Jim.
“We are one of eleven restaurants in the country with this accolade so it is not easy come by. We work hard for it and I am blessed to have a stellar team behind me. Dingle native and Head Chef, Rachel Boyle, leads the kitchen team with sheer enthusiasm, cooking talent and commitment. Front of house I am joined by two wonderful McCarthy ladies - Susan and Mary. Even though we’re not related, there must be something in the McCarthy name and I could not do it without them,” concluded Jim.
