KEANE’S Supervalu’s first home game of the season was everything we could have hoped for.

A huge crowd gathered in Killorglin sports complex for their encounter against a strengthened Kestrels team from last season, the two encounters last season saw Keane’s Supervalu victors in both home 98 to 84 and 86 to 81 away.

Keanes got off to a strong start with two three pointers from Declan Wall, and with good defence took the lead early going ahead twelve to four with only five minutes played.

Once settled Kestrels players took charge with Karolis Timofejevas found the basket more easily scoring nine of their thirteen the first quarter finished Keane’s Supervalu ahead 18 to 13.

Kestrels were first to register a score in this quarter but Declan walls target was in sight and clocked up another two three pointers followed by two from Kev Grey and a basket from Ian McLaughlin Keanes extended their lead by 12.

Keeping things interesting the home crowd were enthralled by great team work from Keanes Supervalu, Kev Grey clocked up eleven points in the first half through some great assists from Saulius, Ian and Garni. Score at the end of the first half was Keanes ahead 36 to 29.

The crowd was treated to some half time entertainment from our academy boys and St Anne’s whom we would like to thank for attending the game last night with their families, it was great to see our future stars take centre stage

The third quarter Kestrels came to fore and almost doubled their score out scoring Keane’s Supervalu by three points. During this quarter the score difference varied from four to eleven points.

It was a quarter where scores were traded, but Keanes getting into foul trouble early on helped keep Kestrels, who were constantly threatening to over take, but the quarter finished Keane’s Supervalu ahead 61 to 57. Both Kev Grey and Garni Garcia registering eight points each in the quarter.

Garni was the first off the mark in the final quarter, but our defence at times became quite loose. It was quick and fast paced quarter although Kestrels only scored twice in the first five minutes of play the crowd witnessed some class plays from Garni Saulius combination and three pointers from Ian McLaughlin Keanes led by twelve going into the last five minutes.

At times Keanes left themselves down with some poor turnovers which could have cost the game, kestrels came within one point with just over two minutes remaining. The cool and level headed James Weldon helped calm the team during the final exciting minutes and our players all registering scores Keanes were victors by three 80 to 77.
