Late late penalty call irks Murphy

- BY DAN KEARNEY

RATHMORE club chairman Donal Murphy felt that his team should have had a penalty near the end of the game.

“It was a tough game to lose. We felt that we should have had a penalty at the end with the leg block, that shot was definitely on the way to the net but for that. We were sore at some of the refereeing decisions throughout the game, but now is not the time to talk about that.

“It’s our second year in-a-row losing a county semi final,it’s an awful long way to try and come back again. It’s easy to say that we will be back next year but once again at the start of the year our primary aim will be to stay senior. These days don’t come around too often so when you get them you have to try and make the most of them.”

Murphy felt that Rathmore were unfortunate with some of their injuries.

“We lost two or three players throughout. We lost TJ Friel very early with a hamstring injury, Donal O’Sullivan came on and had to go off again, Paul Murphy was injured for a lot of the game, I suppose our resources were well tested, these things are unfortunate, but we gave it everything. It just wasn’t good enough.

“Fair play to Kenmare they kicked some good points and the very best of luck to them in the final.

“We had our chances in the second half, but Kenmare also had their chances in the first half so I think that overall the goal chances probably levelled out. It was a great game, but once again we are on the wrong end of the scoreline.”
