DEATHS

Michael Galvin, Leamarla, Dingle, father of Mary Foley, Caher Woods, Caher, Kilgarvan passed away on Saturday 1st October 2016. His Requiem Mass took place at St. Mary’s Church Dingle on Tuesday 4th October 2015 at 2:00pm with burial afterwards in Keelmalkea­dar New Cemetery. To his wife Kathleen, children Claus, Denis, Mary, Deirdre and Áine, brother Pat, sister Mary Ann and relatives we extend our deepest Sympathy.

Jack Casey, Direen, Blackvalle­y, Killarney, a retired postman and brother of the late Michael Casey, Slaughts, Kilgarvan and BlackValle­y, Killarney passed away on Saturday 1st October 2016. His Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday 5th October 2016 at 11.00am in St Mary’s Church, Beaufort with burial afterwards in Churchtown Cemetery, Beaufort. To his wife Chrissie, children Michael, Donal, John, Padraig, Timmy, Bernie, Seamus, Caitriona and Marguerite, Sister Peg Foley, Kenmare, brothers Padraig, Bernie and Ted, nephews, nieces and relatives we extend our deepest Sympathy.

Dieter Henseler, Kilgortare­e House, Kilgortare­e, Letter, Kilgarvan passed away on Monday, October 3rd, 2016. He lived in Kilgarvan for many years where initially he had a dry stock farm and more recently forestry. In his younger days Dieter was a senior staff member of Liebherr crane factory in Killarney a job that took him all over the world. Dieter, a native of Germany, was very much part of the extended community and blended in well with the local people and organisati­ons. His Funeral Service took place on Wednesday 3rd October at 11:00am in St. Patrick’s Church, Kenmare with burial afterwards in the New Kenmare Cemetery. To his wife, daughters and extended family we extend our deepest Sympathy.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Kerry underage (even age category) Cross Country season kicked off on Sunday October 2nd at the Demesne National Park, Killarney. A number of Kilgarvan athletes were on the Kenmare District team that won individual and team medals. Rhona Randles was an impressive winner of the girls U16 championsh­ip. Eva Gadsden placed 3rd and both girls were on the winning Kenmare team. In the boys U14 Michael O’Reilly had an titanic battle for the gold medal with Cian Spillane (Farranfore/ Maine Valley) and Patrick Galvin (Star of the Laune). Spillane eventually won out but Michael must be pleased with his 2nd place. Both Michael O’Reilly and Timothy O’Donoghue, Ards were on the winning Kenmare team for the U14 team event. Aoife O’Reilly was on the winning Kenmare team in the U14 girls category. In the U12 boys Kieran O’Donoghue, Ards won the race and Cathal Kelleher placed 3rd. Both boys along with Thomas O’Reilly won a bronze team medal with the Kenmare team in their category U12 boys. Seamus O’Donoghue, Ards won a silver medal with the Kenmare team in U10 boys. Well done to all.

PLAY

For one night only on Thursday 27th October 2016 at the INEC, Killarney, the 1916 play, ‘Patrick’, written by Aidan O’Connor and based on the true story of Captain Patrick O’ Connor an Irish Volunteer from Rathmore who fought and died in the Easter Rising, 1916. Patrick buried his father and brother the week before he joined Patrick Pearse and his comrades to fight inside the GPO. This two-hour musical drama tells the story of patriotism, love and loss which is brought to life by moving renditions of classic Irish songs such as ‘Mo Ghile Mear’, ‘Roisín Dubh’ and ‘Grace’. Dispose of Unused Medicines Properly (DUMP) is a fee collection service available in pharmacies throughout Cork and Kerry for the safe disposal of unused or out of date, prescripti­on or over-thecounter medicines. Please avail of this opportunit­y to DUMP these medicines properly.

Removing unused or unwanted medicines from the family home can reduce the risk of accidental poisonings (particular­ly in children), overdose suicide attempts, inappropri­ate sharing of medicines and damage to the environmen­t. The DUMP campaign will run in participat­ing pharmacies from 10th October to 20th November 2016.
