SEAN CHAIRDE INFO DAY

Was a great success in the Dromhall Hotel,in Killarney on Thursday last . Over one hundred people attended. The title for the day was ‘Taking Care of Ourselves in Older Age’ .

Our new Chairperson Nita Guiney, from Valentia welcomed all to Information Day. The first person to speak was Tim O Leary, OLeary Solicitors. "Thinking Ahead." as you can guess ,Wills and Power of Attorney.. 2nd speaker was Marie OConnor HSE, on Nursing Home Fair Deal. Great interest shown in that subject. At 11.30, we had Pat Byrne, Social Worker Kerry Mental Health. Then we had a most welcome Coff/ Tea break.

At 12.30 pm we had Siobhan Griffin, Kerry County Council, with Shane Winters, Regional Co-ordinator Age Friendly Ireland.Making Kerry an Age Friendly County by Margaret O Donovan SE.. Next came Sergeant James Foley, Crime Prevention Officer Kerry.. This Garda was a great speaker with a great voice, and he spoke on Reporting on Security and Safety Issues.

There were many questions asked by the audience. James was very polite, and gave many people a chance to speak. Last but not least, Declan Furlong of AIB Killorglin, gave an interesting talk on Bank Life and the problems members of the public have and they are there to help at any time.

Many thanks to all the speakers on the day, the lunch was great, Elaine Scully showed off her knitted blankets made for children in poorer countries.Maura Fitzgerald made the blanket and was won by a Kenmare person.

Looking forward to our next day out in Valentia on October 16 th, Dinner and Dine. See you all there !
