A TYRONE man is among those who will join Mickey O’Sullivan in picking the Kerry senior and under 21 football teams for the next twelve months.

John McNally, who lives in Scartaglen and teaches in Castleisland, polled 65 votes in the postal ballot for the county selection committee and was elected at a County Board meeting in Killarney on Tuesday night, along with Eddie ‘Tatler’ O’Sullivan, of Killarney, Tommy Doyle of Tralee, and Kevin Griffin, of Glenbeigh who was an outgoing selector.

McNally beat North Kerry Football Secretary, Tom Fitzgerald, by one vote for the last place on the committee.

Other defeated candidates were Ger O’Driscoll, of St. Marys, Cahersiveen (outgoing), PJ O’Donovan, also of St. Marys, Denis O’Sullivan, of Kerins O’Rahillys, and Frank Wallace, of Ardfert. Eddie ‘Tatler’ O’Sullivan, trainer of the Dr. Crokes team, easily headed the poll with 120 votes.

John McNally told The Kerryman that he was very pleased to be elected a Kerry selector; “For a man from outside the county, this is something else; if it happened in any other county it just wouldn’t be the same.”

The voting for the selection committee was as follows: Eddie O’Sullivan, 120; Tommy Doyle, 102; Kevin Griffin, 96; John McNally, 65; Tom Fitzgerald, 64; Ger O’Driscoll, 51; PJ O’Donovan, 42; Denis O’Suliivan, 37; Frank Wallace. 23.
