A Bird’s eye-view of missions work

-

LEGENDARY news man Charlie Bird is to deliver an eye-opening talk on his experience of visiting Irish missions in the developing world in one of the key events of the Diocese of Kerry’s celebration of Missions Month and World Mission Day.

Charlie Bird will speak on his experience of the missions he visited in the Philippines and Korea with an accompanying short film to screen as well at The Rose Hotel in Tralee on Monday, October 17, next at 8pm.

Caroline Reid of the Irish Refugee Council will also speak at the event, on Ireland’s response to the global refugee crisis with Frank Lewis chairing the event.

Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne invites everyone to attend in what’s sure to be a deeply in- formative event the Diocese hopes will help renew our connection and commitment to our missions overseas.

“October is mission month and I welcome this year’s mission message from Pope Francis: Missionary Church, Witness of Mercy,” Bishop Browne said.

“The theme for World Mission Sunday on 23 October is ‘Every Christian is a mission- ary’. Today, there are almost 1,200 Irish missionaries serving throughout the world. The upcoming night in Tralee gives space to revisit the good work of our missionaries and also to consider Ireland’s response to the global refugee crisis. A night like this can renew our commitment to being missionary as a central part of our faith.” Admission is free.
