KENMARE SHAMROCKS

-

IFC Quarter Final Kenmare 4-25 Fethard 0-5 We played the same brand of football that downed Templenoe last week in this Munster quarter final against Tip champions Fethard. We were simply too good and Fethard were bamboozled by the half time break, Kenmare with the strong wind winning 90% of the ball in midfield, catching clean or breaking and mopping up. Dara O’Shea won plenty of breaking ball and was involved in many of those first half scores as we just sprinted out of sight. Paul O’Connor’s first goal came via a one-two with Sean O’Shea on 6 minutes and Stephen O’Brien got the second on the stroke of half time, Paul putting in the final ball and Stephen chasing the ball into the net as Fethard groaned. Sean O’Shea’s point from 40m with the outside of the right boot was a thing of beauty also - Fethard simply had no answer and trailed 2-14 to 0-1 at the break. The second half saw six subs - Patrick O’Shea and John Mark Foley left the field after a super shift, two fellas who had played a Munster hurling match on Saturday also - Brian Dan hit 1-2 after coming in, taking the goal superbly on 41 minutes. Colm Dan also hit a fine point showing the options we have in the panel. It is hard to know where we stand after this but what can we do as supporters only applaud the effort of the whole team and management. A huge Kenmare crowd followed the team to Clonmel (and they have put their hands in their pockets to back them also) and it was a fabulous setting and great to see those red and black flags against the autumnal blue sky. Our next outing will be Sunday week against Kilfenora of Clare, venue and time tbc.
