Coolavanny Pet eases to victory in Kelliher’s Garage Stake A1 Final

-

THE well-supported benefit night in aid of the Recovery Haven Kerry Cancer Support House on Saturday saw Coolavanny Pet (Tullymurry Act/Coolavanny Boyce) produce a scintillating run to capture the feature race, the Kelleher’s Toyota Garage Sweepstake A1 Final.

Drawn in trap 3, the Noel Browne trained runner was easy to back at odds of 5/2, with the well supported Lassa Excitement heading the market at even money. Coolavanny Pet made a terrific start and held the initiative on the run down to the opening bend. He raced independent off the second with trap 5, Sign On Tiger leading the chasing pack. Lassa Excitement hadn’t the greatest of start but once he found trouble between the opening bends his chances of victory extinguished. Coolavanny was extending his lead with every stride down the back straight and had a comfortable three-length advantage approaching the closing bends.

With Sign On Tiger beginning to fade in second place, Kilburn Dude took up the running in the race for the minors. The leader continued to push hard on the run-in and stopped the clock in a terrific time of 28.24, four lengths clear of Kilburn Dude. Lassa Excitement ran on to take third a further two lengths back.

Race 9 was an A1/A2 event ran over the 575 yd distance and trap 3 Mohane Sparky (Westmead Hawk/Mohane Meave) took full advantage of the long run to the opening bend to hold the advantage from trap 2 Ballyelan Sonoma by half a length. The latter ran right off the bend and badly hampered the progress Boherbee Lass as a result. Mossend Jordan took off in pursuit of the leader down the back a reduced a two-length deficit to the minimum by turn 3. However this was as close as he would get to the leader, as Mohane Sparky stayed on gamely out in front to land the spoils by 1 ½ lengths in a respectable time of 31.14.

Boherbee Lass recovered somewhat late on to finish a further 1 ½ lengths back in third position. The winner is trained by Nelius O’Connell and owned by Cormac Davoren.

Anascaul River (Kingo/ LobsterBets) came in as a reserve in trap 1 in the 7th race over 525 yards and duly obliged with a trap to line victory in this A2 grade contest. The even money favourite took a flyer from traps and a good turn of early foot put the West Kerry firmly on the road to success. The Patrick Ferriter owned runner was full of running off the closing bends to record a three-length victory in a winning time of 29.01. Bluebell Polly just took the race for second, finishing a short head clear of Millridge Jessie back in third.

Other winners were Earls Commander 18.20, Got The Power 29.45, Ramona Sara 18.28, Blue Slip 29.30, Demesne Romeo 29.52, Jeffs Rocky 18.14 and Ashford Cindy 29.09.
