Caherslee’s thanks for quiet halloween

-

RESIDENTS in the Caherslee area of Tralee have thanked the garda and the local media for helping keep the area safe this Halloween.

Last year hundreds of youths caused chaos in the area on Halloween night –harassing residents ; intimidating trick or treating children; vandalising properties and attacking cars.

This year a major garda crackdown aided by Kerry County Council and local GAA clubs helped ensure there was no repeat of last year’s disgraceful scenes.

The local media – including The Kerryman – were also thanked for highlighting the issue and advertising the looming garda clampdown .

“Halloween in the Caherslee area this year 2016, was a quiet and safe experience for parents and children While in Halloween 2015, hundreds of youths flooded our area, heckled at residents and Gardai alike, set off numerous firecrackers and ran through football pitches and estates as if they were in a playground,” said the Clogher Fáilí Residents association.

“There are many contributors to this very welcomed change. Cllr Norma Foley attended our meetings, spoke on our behalf on Radio Kerry, liaised with Kerry County Council and An Garda Siochána and helped us with her consistent positive support. To our Gardai, we say “A big thank you for the extra Gardai on patrol on the night and for the great help and advice from our local Community Guard Patricia Fitzpatrick,” said the Residents Association.

The Association also expressed their thanks to The Kerryman, Radio Kerry’s Deirdre Walsh and Elaine Kinsella and to Kerry’s Eye for stories highlighting the issues faced in the area in recent years.

O’Donnells Bar and Byrne’s Spar were also thanked for their help and support.

“To the Residents of Caherslee who worked together, we say a huge Thank you! Each contribution made a difference. As Residents and parents we will continue to work together each Halloween and all year round,” said the association.
