Happy Pear twins to dish up a feast at Listowel Food Fair

- By GER MULVIHILL

IF the saying ‘good food, good mood’ is true, then Listowel is likely to be awash with people marinating in happiness this week as Listowel Food Fair gets underway on Thursday night.

The mouthwatering events being served up throughout the week are reminders of how lucky we are to have a town so rich in culinary delights.

As the success of the Tidy Towns did earlier in the year, the Food Fair will put Listowel back under the national spotlight, which is so vital in ensuring tourists remain drawn to the town.

The Food Fair is likely to entice many such visitors with the Happy Pear brothers David and Stephen Flynn on hand to impart their knowledge of homegrown Irish foods to those who gather at the Listowel Arms Hotel for the opening on Thursday November 10.

The ‘Pear’ are looking forward to their Kerry visit - in particular meeting the foodies of the Kingdom. “In partnership with Garvey’s Supervalu we’re delighted to be taking part this year in Ireland’s longest-running food festival to promote great food. We hope to inspire people to cook more at home and to eat more vegetables and home grown produce, and we’re really looking forward to meeting everyone in Listowel,” they said this week. The four tasty recipes they will demonstrate on the opening night of the 2016 Listowel Food Fair are Crunchy Vanilla Maple Granola, Easy Ramen Noodles, Pad Thai and Winter Barley Butterbean Stew.

Irish Olympian sprint hurdle athlete Derval O’Rourke is also in the mixing bowl of the Fair, in Kerry to give all the benefit of her healthy-eating knowledge as outlined in her recent book The Fit Foodie.
