LAUNE RANGERS

-

LOTTO: Lotto results for Sunday 6th November. There was no winner of the €7,800 jackpot. The numbers drawn were 07 -- 09 -- 25 -- 27. The Consolation Prizes were won by the following: €100 Chris Houlihan - sold by Colette; €50 Jiggy - sold by Colette; €25 Imelda O’Sullivan - sold by Colette; €25 Elma Houlihan - sold by Margaret Browne. Next week’s jackpot will be €8,000. SENIOR: Laune Rangers travelled to Glenbeigh for the long awaited Mid Kerry Championship tie against the newly crowned County Junior Champions Glenbeigh/Glencar. While the home side were without Caolim Teahan and Fergal Griffin on the day, Rangers took the field without John Tyther, Daniel Macbeth and Conall Kelly. This was also only the second competitive game Laune Ranger shad played in three months, while Glenbeigh/Glencar had

four high intensity matches in the same period. A low scoring opening half saw Glenbeigh/Glencar go into the dressing rooms at the break leading by a point, as the teams matched each other score for score throughout the period. Pa Kilkenny, Jack Brosnan and two frees by Gavan O’Grady were met by points from Jack O’Connor and Colm O’Shea (3 frees), but another late Gavan O’Grady free gave the home side the lead at the short whistle. Half Time score:- Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-5, Laune Rangers 0-4. Colm O’Shea (free) cancelled out an early Kieran Courtney point but Darran O’Sullivan gave the hosts 0-7 to 0-5 lead with 15 minutes to play. Substitute Shane O’Connor scored a fantastic point for Laune Rangers but Kieran Courtney hit Rangers with a hammer blow in the 49th minute as sloppy play from the Rangers forwards saw the ball turned over unnecessarily and Darran O’Sullivan carried the ball upfield, passing across the square to Courtney who made no mistake with the finish to the net. Another Colm O’Shea free was cancelled out by Daniel Griffin from play, while Podge Griffin put a final score on the board with a well taken point. Full Time score:Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-9, Laune Rangers 0-7. The loss brings the 2016 season to a close for Laune Rangers Senior Team. Laune Rangers will compete in the Intermediate Championship & County League Division Three in 2017. Glenbeigh/Glencar: Rory O’Connor, Sean Roche, Jerry Hoare, Kieran Doyle, Jack Brosnan (0-1), Pa Kilkenny (0-1), Stephen O’Sullivan, Colin McGillycuddy, Tommy Cahill, Danny O’Sullivan, Darran O’Sullivan (0-1), Bernard Murphy, Kieran Courtney (1-1), Gavan O’Grady (0-3f), Daniel Griffin (0-1). MINOR: Laune Rangers face Keel/Listry in the Mid Kerry Minor Championship Semi Final on Saturday next, November 12th at 2:30pm in JP O’Sullivan Park. UNDER 16: On Bank Holiday Monday, Laune Rangers Under 16s had a comprehensive victory over Keel/Listry in the opening round of the championship and they made it two wins from two in the Mid Kerry Competition with an away victory in Beaufort on Sunday morning. There were a number of players missing on both sides on Sunday but it didn’t affect the Rangers style of play as they went on to score 6 goals on the day. The first came directly from a free kick as Dáire Cleary put the ball to the top corner of the net from 25 yards out. He went on to score another goal and was joined on the goals list by his brother Seán (an U14 player), Mark O’Connor, and Shane Doona (2). The defence was solid in the first half as they conceded a solitary point, while they didn’t allow much more in the second half as Beaufort tagged a further 1-4. Cormac Doyle made some key blocks and a great interception to snuff out another Beaufort attack, while Rory O’Connor (another U14) also came into the side and certainly didn’t weaken it. Laune Rangers will host Cromane/ Glenbeigh/Glencar in the third Round of fixtures. The game will take place on Saturday 19th November at 2:30pm in JP O’Sullivan Park. Laune Rangers: Jack Evans, Cormac Doyle, Conor Murphy, Oisin Daly, Rory O’Connor, Sean Arthurs, James Hurley (0-1), Kevin Fitzpatrick (0-1f), David Mangan (0-1), Ronan O’Shea (0-1), Dáire Cleary (2-5, 1-3f), Eoin Clifford, Mark O’Connor (1-2), Shane Doona (2-1), Sean Cleary (1-1).
