Lawlor running for chair again

FORMER Munster Branch Honorary Match and Handicappi­ng Secretary Michael Lawlor has decided to seek the Chairmansh­ip of the Munster Branch at the forthcomin­g Annual Delegates Meeting which takes place on Tuesday, November 29 at the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow.

Mr Lawlor, who is nominated by Castleisla­nd Golf Club, put his name forward last year but withdrew before the ballot and Chairman John Moloughney was returned unopposed.

This year Mr Moloughney’s term as Chairman is finished as he moves upstairs to become Vice-President of the Golfing Union of Ireland.

The Munster Branch has put forward outgoing Branch Honorary Secretary Jim Long of Monkstown as their nominee for the chair while outgoing Honorary Match and Handicappi­ng Secretary Liam Harkin of Muskerry has also entered the race along with Lawlor and Long.

Joe Rouane (Adare Manor) is retiring from council and there are five new nominees as well as the sixteen existing council members going forward for election with 21 in total contesting the 17 available spots.

Outgoing Kerry delegates Tom Keane (Ballybunio­n) and Mick Coote (Tralee) are joined on the ballot paper by Castleisla­nd’s Sean Turner.

Submission of club delegates to attend the meeting are to be received no later than Tuesday, November l5 by 5pm. Each club shall be entitled to delegate representa­tion on the Branch in proportion to the number of members in respect of whom Union subscripti­ons and provincial levies have been paid as stated in its last Annual Return to the Union, and according to the following scale: (a) up to 100 members one delegate, (b) from 101 to 200 members, two delegates, (c) from 201 to 400 members, three delegates, (d) over 401 members, four delegates, (e) University Club, one delegate. The district AGM of the Munster branch of the ILGU will take place on this Saturday, November 12 at the Mallow GAA complex at 12 noon.
