Killorglin go top of J3 after win in Fermoy

-

MUNSTER J1 DIVISION 3 Killorglin 9 Fermoy 8

KILLORGLIN travelled to Fermoy for a top of the table clash, which was always going to be too close to call. Both teams came into the game undefeated. The game started at a very fast pace, with tackles coming thick and fast from both sides.

Killorglin drew first blood when Fermoy indiscipline lead to a penalty for Killorglin. Killorglin’s Luke O’Shea made no mistake and slotted the ball between the posts to make the scoreline 3-0. Fermoy responded well and were awarded a penalty around Killorglins 22. They opted to kick the ball into touch but could not get over Killorglin’s line with the ensuing maul.

However a few minutes later Fermoy’s hard work paid off, a few badly missed tackles by Killorglin and the Fermoy winger sprinted over the line to touch down the games first try. The conversion was unsuccessful leaving the scoreline 5-3 in favour of Fermoy.

Fermoy added three more points to the board before half time from a well kicked penalty leaving Killorglin with a big job to do in the second half.

Killorglin started the second half stronger than the first but were still giving away too many peanlties. They conceded again on their own 22.

Strangely Fermoy looked to kick the ball towards touch to an oncoming winger, the kick was a bit to strong and went into touch, a sigh of great relief came from the men from puck.

Killorglin then started to march the ball up the pitch, scrum half Fionn O’Shea was very patient as Killorglin started to build the phases. Killorglin forwards started to crash the Fermoy defensive line that stayed strong.

Killorglin marched into the Fermoy half and we halted by a Fermoy high tackle which sent the offender to the sin bin. The resulting penalty was converted again by Luke O’Shea leaving the scoreline 8-6 still in favour of Fermoy.

Fermoy continued to attack well, despite being down to 14 men, but Killorglin continued to defended their line. Killorglin again got a great break up the field from a great run from George Evans and were rewarded with another penalty. Luke O’Shea stepped up as he has all season and kicked a very difficult penalty into the wind and the roar came from the Killorglin supports as the touch judges raised their flags to signal the successful kick, 9-8 to Killorlgin.

The next five minutes felt like an eternity as Fermoy were not going
