High praise for the winners of Tidy Tralee

THE efforts of the people of Tralee in improving the overall appearance of the town was commended by Tralee Town Clerk Sean Crispie at an awards ceremony in the town hall on Wednesday night.

Business people, residents of estates and individual members of the public were among those honoured at this year’s ‘Tidy Tralee Together’ awards.

Tralee Town Clerk Sean Crispie said the estates of the town were flagships of the overall effort. He said that their example was ‘rubbing off on everybody else.’

Mr Crispie said that he hoped the shopfronts would continue to improve.

In the ‘large estates’ category, Knockmoyle took first place, with St John’s Park and Derrylea coming second and third. respective­ly.

Woodlands took the top prize in the ‘small estates’ category, while Kerins Park came second and Cahill’s Park third.

In the ‘Pre 1950’ estate category, Blennervil­le took the honours, with Lohercanno­n and Castle Countess coming in second and third.

Seven businesses in Traleewere presented with plaques for the work that they carried out to their shop fronts during the year.

These were Dan Fitzgerald, the Mall; Mary O’Donnell, Barrack Lane; Der O’Sullivan, the Mall; Leahy’s Pharmacy, Oak Park Road; FBD Insurance, Ashe Street; Gary O’Donnell of Bailey’s Corner, Ashe Street, and Ted O’Connor of Tile Choice, Court House Lane.

Awards were also presented for gardens in the town and the winners here were M. Brosnan of Kerin’s Park, John Burrows of Mitchell’s Avenue, Joe Dunne of Derrylea, M _O’DriscoJl of Marion Park, Noreen Horgan of Knockmoyle and Gerard Horgan of O’Rahilly Villas.

A special award was given to the residents of Spa Road for making the biggest improvemen­t during the year.

Outgoing Tidy Tralee Together Chairman Pat O’Donnell was alsi presented with an award, as did Billy Nolan of the Chamber of Commerce for mproving the appearance of Tralee.
