MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP, KERRY AREA SEMI-FINAL Dingle Bay Rovers 6 Tralee Dynamos 1

AT first sight anyone well versed on soccer in Kerry would find the scoreline above incredible but your eyes are not deceiving you as Dingle Bay Rovers put Tralee Dynamos to the sword in scintillating fashion at Mounthawk Park on Thursday and booked their place in the Kerry Area final of the Munster Junior Cup.

The easy manner in which they won was a major surprise but it also showed just how far the current Premier A Champions have come over the past couple of years.

Dynamos could not stick the pace with the West Kerry side who were lethal going forward very creative at midfield and defended very sensibly when called upon.

The first half was a tight enough affair with Dingle going 2-0 up and when Dynamos pulled a goal back in the 40th minute it looked as if the game was going to be a close contest.

But Dingle produced the sucker punch just before half time with their third goal and they never looked back after that.

The West Kerry side took complete control of the game in the second half and Dynamos were only chasing shadows.

Dynamos badly missed the influence of James Sugrue and Anthony Murphy at midfield who were suspended for the game and Luke Burgess and Joe Sheehy lorded proceedings for Dingle producing the launch pad for most of their side’s attacks.

It took a while for the game to take shape with both sides cautious early on.

However Dingle went ahead in the 11th minute when the Dynamos defence did not deal adequately with a long ball from midfield and Sean O’Connor got in on the blind side and while his first shot was parried by the Dynamos goalie Gary Sugrue he was on to the rebound in a flash and stuck it in the back of the net.

Dynamos first serious chance came in the 20th minute when a foul on Jamie McIntyre led to a free kick on the verge of the box.

It was hit sweetly by Scott Monaghan but Dingle keeper Thomas Sayers made a fine save pushing the shot away to safety.

After this Dynamos enjoyed a good spell of dominance and John Foley had a good chance to score but he pulled his shot wide.

Then after good build up play from midfield Danny Roche put Jamie Mc Intyre through on goals but his shot from 12 yards was brilliantly saved by the Dingle keeper Thomas Sayers pushing it over for a corner kick.

Then totally against the run of play Dingle hit on the break and Sean O’Connor showed a clean pair of heels to defenders . His shot was blocked by the Dynamos keeper but he was following up closely and drilled the ball low to the bottom corner.

Dynamos got a life line in the 40th minute with Jamie McIntyre using his strength to win the ball and he linked up with John Foley who showed great composure weaving his way past a couple of defenders and from close in he gave the Dingle keeepr no chance with a clinical finish.

However Dingle responded two minutes later with Joe Sheehy and Luke Burgess combining to spread open the Dynamos defence and Sean Fitzgerald won the race to get control of the ball and from just inside the box he finished to the net in emphatic fashion.

Five minutes into the second half Jonathan Burrows latched on to a Danny Roche free kick but his headed effort went over the top.

Dingle put clear daylight between the sides in the 65th minute when the Dynamos defence failed to cover their markers after a Sean O’Connor corner kick and Donnacha Higgins stole in at the far post and got the vital flick to get the ball over the goal line.

Dingle had the ball in the net again in the 77th minute after another penetrating attack and Luke Burgess was there to finish it off.

The West Kerry side added further salt to the Dynamos wounds in the 81th minute with Joe Sheehy scoring the sixth goal.

Dingle now await the winners of Killarney Celtic versus Listowel Celtic in the final and in this type of form will e very difficult to beat.
