Bereavement group open day in Dingle
MÉALA bereavement support group are hosting an open day in Dingle on Saturday. when the guest speaker will be founding member, Denis Robinson.
Méala Bereavement started in Listowel in 2011 and groups meet monthly in Listowel, Castleisland, Tralee and Ballybunion. The open day on Saturday is run with a view to starting a group in Dingle.
Méala Bereavement offers support to anyone who has lost a loved one; it is not a counselling or a therapy session.
Denis Robinson explained: “Méala is a group of people who come together, having experienced bereavement in their own lives and having come to know that people understand what they are going through”. Describing his own experience of the group he said “I go to a group where people understand my grief, sometimes my pain, my anger my despair”.
He rejects the notion that there is a specific timeframe during which people grieve explaining that “the group is about letting people be themselves in their grief or bereavement. It is a place where people don’t feel they are a burden”.
