Thursday is community college’s open night

Castleisland Community College will open its doors to prospective students and their parents/ guardians on this Thursday night, November 10, 7- 9pm.

Current primary school students from fourth, fifth and sixth classes in this and neighbouring parishes are being invited in with their parents or guardians to take a look at the facilities.

The facilities are impressive and the capabilities of the students are amazing in all fields of education.

The construction and engi- neering classrooms are the highlights for many new visitors as they contain stunning displays of innovation and enterprise and are always popular stops on the tour of the school.

“All subject teachers and staff will be available to meet with all our visitors on the night to discuss their subject area and to answer any questions or queries parents or students may have,” said Principal Carmel Kelly.

There will be a focus on the educational programmes and support services the school offers its huge catchment area.

Castleisland Community College received a glowing report in the most recent Whole-School Evaluation review carried out by the Department of Education and Skills. The review looked at areas under the headings: Management, Leadership and Learning. A summary of its findings reads as follows:

“Castleisland Community College is a welcoming, inclusive and caring school. The school is well managed through the combined work and actions of the board, Kerry ETB and the senior management team.

The principal and deputy principal demonstrate many of the positive traits associated with instructional leadership. Staff are empowered to manage and lead various aspects of school life, and they are effective in this work. Continuing professional development is valued and prioritised for teachers.

Good quality outcomes are evident in relation to school development planning. Students benefit from high levels of guidance and support. The cur- riculum is broad and balanced, supported by an extensive number and range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The overall quality of teaching and learning is very good, with some excellent and exemplary practice observed. Castleisland Community College stands out in the realm of Teaching and Learning.”
