-

IN the wake of a series of weather forced postponements reaching back to early September, the Dick Fitzgerald Memorial Cup was eventually played for over the October bank holiday weekend.

Castleisland Golf Club hosted the event in ideal weather conditions.

“This tournament was originally to be played in September, but it was rained off on two occasions,” club captain, John Manton explained.

“The organising committee was pleased that the tournament in memory of the very popular Castleisland native, Dick Fitzgerald of the Woodlands House Hotel & Spa in Adare was eventually completed. The conditions and the course over the weekend were fabulous,” said Mr. Manton.

The captain thanked all the teams who participated in the competition and he especially thanked Conor and all the Fitzgerald family for their support in sponsoring this competition in Dick’s memory.

The presentation of prizes will be held in the Woodlands Hotel at the end of November.

The winning, Advance Tyre Society, team was made up of: Ben Foley, Liam Martin, Con Murphy, Declan Raggett, Tom Nix, Pat Ruane. They triumphed with a score of 132 points.

The runners up were the Fagin’s Corner Society team of: Denis Galvin, John Haugh, Mike Brosnan, Maurice O’Riordan, Martin Downey and Willie O’Leary and they finished on 125 points.
