Derrynane says thanks to ROK Cycle
THE volunteers of the Derrynane Inshore Rescue service have issued a heartfelt thank you to the organisers and participants of this year’s Ring of Kerry Cycle.
The rescue service was one of the ten major charity beneficiaries from this summer’s cycle. Participants who cycled the ring on Derrynane Inshore Rescue’s behalf raised €133,696 for the service and they received a further €33,000 from the Ring of Kerry Cycle’s central allocation.
That €166,696 will be used to fully refit and update the service’s rescue boat the Aghamare II. The refit – which will be carried out over the winter – will include the installation of new engines, electronics and safety equipment.
“On behalf of the Derrynane Inshore Rescue Service I would like to thank all of our cyclists, fundraisers, corporate sponsors and the many donors, without you we could not have raised such an amazing amount,” said DIR Chairperson Helen Wilson.
“A special thanks to the volunteers who willingly gave of their time at water stops, acted as road stewards, provided medical cover or were simply on the roadside, encouraging cyclists on their journey. You contributed hugely to the success of the day and in making is such a memorable occasion for all concerned,” Helen added.
“We received a net total of €166,696, a truly fantastic achievement of which we are very proud and truly appreciative. We are forever indebted to your generosity. Thank you. By cycling and fundraising for us people have ensured there will be a state of the art rescue boat on the Kenmare bay for many years to come,” Helen said.
