Row over roof may delay sale of Kerry Technology Park

- By SIMON BROUDER

THE sale of Kerry Technology Park in Tralee could be held up due to a row over the roof of one of the park’s main buildings.

Tralee company Gleasure Roofing say they are owed a substantial sum for works they carried out to repair extensive storm damage to the roof of the Innovation Works building in the Technology Park.

According to company owner F.J Gleasure the works – which took about five weeks to complete – were completed in January 2015 but his firm have not been paid fully for the job.

To highlight their case Gleasures have staged a dramatic protest in recent days.

Last week the firm parked a truck, emblazoned with large placards outlining their grievances, in front of the Innovation Works building.

If the row isn’t resolved Gleasures – who maintain they are the legal owners of the building’s roof - say they will consider mounting a legal action to recover the money they say they are owed.

If the legal action goes ahead it could have serious implications for the impending sale of Kerry Technology Park.

Institute of Technology Tralee and Kerry County Council are currently finalising a multi million Euro deal to purchase the Technology Park from Shannon Commercial Properties (SCP).

SCP took ownership of the park – located on a site adjacent to IT Tralee - following the dissolution of Shannon Development.

The deal to buy the park is understood to be worth over €6 million and it was expected to be sealed within weeks.

In a brief statement on the matter SCP said the issue relates to a private contractual dispute in which it is not directly involved. SCP declined to comment on the potential impact the dispute could have on the sale of the park.
