The Intermediate School Killorglin: an established reputation for education across Mid Kerry
THE ISK has developed a distinguished reputation for education in Killorglin and across Mid Kerry stretching back over 100 years.
Today the school is at the centre of excellence in modern education with a professional team of staff that is dedicated to enriching the overall student experience. Principal, Joe O’Dwyer, explains; “The school is primarily about learning and the aim is to give a rounded education to each student. The goal is personal development, parallel to academic achievement. We also acknowledge that each student is different and has unique talents and abilities and we support everyone to achieve their potential.
“We have a proud tradition of educating the community of Mid Kerry and the school has always had a deserved reputation for academic results and these results have always gone in tandem with a heavy focus on extra-curricular activities such as sport, music and drama, school tours and public speaking. We’re very happy to see past pupils succeed in every walk of life,” said Joe.
The ISK is a place that views its proud tradition as a platform on which to build bigger and better opportunities for its students into the future and if current investments in school infrastructure are anything to go by, then this commitment is well ahead of schedule.
“Yes, we’re always investing in our facilities and keeping everything modern and up to date. Currently we have a new science building underway and we’re always considering developments and new building projects. There are so many events that take place every year for example we just had the winner of the Dublin piano competition perform here, as well as an important talk on internet safety. Down the road we have a big school concert scheduled to take place at the CYMS at the end of November, while traditional musician, Seamus Begley, is due to play here in January. There’s always plenty going on at The ISK and life is always busy.”
