Killarney Community College celebrates 30

TEACHERS past and present gathered at the Killarney Community College on Monday last to celebrate 30 years of providing education in Killarney. During that time in excess of 3,000 have passed through the doors while many more have availed of night education at the college.

Among those present on the evening were a number past principals including Tim Healy, Eamon Fitzgerald, Pat Favier and Fiona O’Brien who shared tales of their time spent in the school.

While doing so, they were able to indulge in a plethora of light refreshmen­ts which were compliment­ed beautifull­y by the wonderful entertainm­ent which was provided by Ms Joanna Hughes and student, Kirill Healy. The sound of laughter echoing in room also served as an indicator that the evening was greatly enjoyed by those present.

The official opening of the college’s new uber modern building was also incorporat­ed into the joyous occasion. That particular event was officiated by Kerry ETB CEO Colm McEvoy while Education Officer, Ann O’Dwyer was bestowed the honour of cutting the ribbon – opening a new chapter in the school’s history in the process.

Having long been at the forefront of curriculum change, the college is among those leading the way in implementi­ng change for students. The newest structural addition to the college will further enhance the daily experience of students and staff – adding renewed energy to the already vibrant Killarney Community College.
