Testimonials for Killorglin Post Office

-

THE Chamber Alliance fully supports Nora O’Sullivan-Looney’s efforts to Save the Post Office and its wide range of services. The services provided by Nora and staff are invaluable to the community and locals don’t need reminding that Prize Bonds sold in the national Post Offices are processed right here in Killorglin by FEXCO. Hundreds of Post Offices across rural Ireland have been threatened with closure and Killorglin and its wider locality should be aware that bigger towns than Killorglin have had their services cut. As a community we need to support Nora and the services she provides or, quite simply, we will lose them.

Listowel’s Billy Keane said in 2015 when An Post downgraded Listowel’s Post Office: “We cannot place all the blame on An Post. Cancel that direct debit and pay your bill through the local Post Office; get the children’s allowance in cash when you come from the city to see the mother and father; open a Post Office savings account; or just write a letter to a loved one in your own hand and before long it will become a family heirloom.” Trudi O’Sullivan, Secretary of Killorglin Chamber Alliance OUR Post Offices provide vital services to our local communities and Killorglin Post Office is no exception. It is important that local communities support their local Post Office as without this support there is a danger that the services provided will be lost. This has been the case for some communities in South Kerry and for many more rural communities across the country.

Killorglin Post Office makes an important contribution to the community, social and business fabric of Killorglin and its environs. Access to services is a prerequisite for sustaining vibrant rural communities and the services provided by our Post Offices, including Killorglin Post Office, make an important contribution to this vibrancy.

South Kerry Development Partnership Ltd would like to wish Killorglin Post Office continued success and would encourage the community in Killorglin to avail of the many services it provides. Noel Spillane, Chief Executive Officer, South Kerry Development Partnership Ltd IT’S very important to ensure that Killorglin Post Office stays open. I speak on behalf of the Killorglin Active Retirement Group and we don’t want to lose our Post Office as we pay our bills, draw our pensions and it is very convenient for a whole range of other services.

Friday is a very social morning and people meet there to have a chat and they might go for a cup of coffee up the street, but it’s the Post Office that draws them in so it’s an important meeting place. Speaking for myself, when you go to a bank it’s not very inviting and it’s a different atmosphere; whereas in the Post Office you can have a friendly chat and, being in Killorglin all her life, Nora knows everyone.

This is something that can only be built up over time and it’s important that we ensure Killorglin Post Office stays open. Anita Galvin, Chairperson Killorglin Active Retirement Group
