Currrow 3-13 Spa 1-9 IN a game of two halves, a well coordinated and skilful Currow built a convincing lead, playing with the wind in the first half. Points from Luke Fitzgerald, John McMahon and Adam Manley had three points on the board, within ten minutes.

Then came the first of the goals. Currrow’s Luke Fitzgerald won the kick out, took a return pass and had the Spa net bulging on the eleventh minute. A John McMahon point from play saw Currow lead by 1-4 going into the second quarter.

Play moved from end to end, but although Spa created scoring opportunities, it was not their day, and the ball tailed wide in the strong wind. A scatter of points (Adam Manley, Johathan Hilliard, John McMahon) were followed with a second Currow goal, from the boot of Luke Fitzgerald after a surging run forward, with five minute remaining n the half. A John McMahon point saw the score at the break Currow 2-8 Spa 0-0.

Although Currow opened the scoring on the restart, with a lovely point by John McMahon, Spa responded quickly and had the better of the second half, playing with the wind.

The Currow keeper, Brian O’Shea, made a great save of a goal bound shot. Spa maintained pressure and had five points on the board going into the last quarter, Dara Moynihan, Niall McCarthy (3) and Niall Moynihan on target.

Luke Fitzgerald scored the second Currow point of the half. The last fifteen minutes were played at pace. Adam Manley sent a rasper to the cornerof the Spa net. The two semi finals in the Tatler Jack East Kerry Minor ‘C’ Championship saw Rathmore and Cordal / Scartaglin reach the final with victories against Glenflesk and Fossa respectively.

Rathmore reached the Minor C Final when they came from behind to beat Glenflesk by four points. Glenflesk started the brighter and dominated midfield through Denis O’Connor and Daniel O’Brien.

They were ahead on the score six points to two by the twentieth minute. The decisive score came in the twenty sixth minute when Oran O’Donoghue scored a well worked goal.

Damien Cronin and Donal Moyinhan led the defence for Rathmore whose scorers were Anthony Darmody (2), Cian Jenkins and Damien Cronin. Half time score was Glenflesk 1-6 Rathmore 0-4.

On resumption, Darragh Rahilly scored an early point. Anthony Darmody struck for a vital goal on the third minute and Rathmore were back in the game. Rathmore equalised 1-7 each by the tenth minute.

However, Glenflesk were ahead by two again by the fifteenth minute. Rathmore dominated the remainder of the game and hit six points without reply. Anthony Darmody (1-7), David Dineen, Fionn Houlihan and Darragh Rahilly pointing.

In the ‘B’ semi-finals Spa came out on top against Killarney Legion, after extra time, and Currow proved the stronger against Kilcummin. Played in Rathmore under lights on Thursday last, the wet and cold conditions made it difficult, but the Currow and Kilcummin players served up a great hours entertainment.

The first ten minutes were very even but a brace of Currow goals from John McMahon and Luke Fitzgerald gave them a lead of 7 points after 20 minutes. However, Kilcummin responded with goals from Gearoid Kerins and David Gleeson and went in at half time trailing 2-4 to 2-7.

Currow started the second half in a determined mood and playing some lovely football gave the Kilcummin defence a difficult 15 minutes. Further goals from Adam Manley and John McMahon and an array of points from Luke Fitzgerald had Currow leading by 13 and in complete control.

A number of shrewd moves by the Kilcummin selectors rejuvenated the team and from there to the finish they outscored their opponents by nine points.

However, goals by Gearoid Kerins and Conor McCarthy and inspired play by Sean O’Leary, amongst others, wasn’t enough and Currow ran out deserving winners. Final score Currow 4-13 Kilcummin 4-9.
