Corca Dhuibhne in the spotlight

- By TADHG EVANS

THE Corca Dhuibhne Local Area Advisory Committee has outlined a series of local issues it would like to have addressed.

Members of the group spoke during a deputation requested by Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald at a South and West Kerry Municipal District meeting on Friday.

Seán Ó Catháin was among the committe members who spoke during the deputation, and suggested that a number of works should be considered for Ventry.

Among these are additional lighting and footpaths in the village, as well as works to secure better visibility at Sayers Cross coming from Ballyferriter.

It was remarked by a number of councillors that Ventry’s population increases greatly during the summer months due to tourism and Irish language courses taking place in the area, with Cllr Fitzgerald saying the proposed works would be in the interest of safety in Ventry.

A number of suggestions were also made for Dingle town. The committee called for a footpath adjacent to the Marina Car Park on the Quay Street to carry on as far as the Cottages as a matter of public safety.

The committee also highlighted worries in relation to motorists’ speed between Milltown Roundabout and the Quay, leading into Dingle town.

It was suggested by Councillor Fitzgerald that the speed limit review due to take place next year consider reducing the speed limit in this area from 50km/h to 30km/h.

Before concluding, the committee expressed its desire that a roadway leading down to Fermoyle Strand near Cloghane Village be resurfaced, to improve access to the popular beach at the foot of Mount Brandon.
