Crokes see off Firies in final

Dr Crokes 1-17 Firies 2-9 IN a sporting and skilful game of two halves, between Firies and Dr Crokes, it was the Lewis Road side that won the East Kerry Minor A Championsh­ip title, sponsored by The Tatler Jack. Dr Crokes dominated the scoring in the opening half, notching up some lovely points from play and led at half time 0-12 to 0-2.

Firies came out on fire after the break. A Dr Crokes pointed free was followed by a Firies purple patch. A goal from Diarmuid O’Mahoney, quickly followed with three points without reply had reduded the gap to five points – 0-13 to 1-5, nine minutes into the half.

Firies were awarded a penalty but the Dr Crokes keeper Nealu Doherty, made an outstandin­g save to keep his side ahead. Two points a piece kept the score board ticking over and a great goal from the boot of Cathal O’Shea, had a single score between the sides, Dr Crokes 0-15 Firies 2-6.

With excitement reaching fever pitch, a Firies pointed free reduced the gap. However, Dr Crokes followed a point from play, with a well sorked goal, finished to the net by Mark Hartnett, giving Firies a mountain to climb with the game in the last five minutes – 1-16 to 2-7. Firies added two points to a single point for Dr Crokes.

The Cup was presented to Dr Crokes captain, David Shaw, by East Kerry Committee Vice Chairman, Johnny Brosnan. Johnny thanks the referee, the Fitzgerald Stadium committee and both teams for a great sporting game. He wished Dr Crokes well for the Munster SFC Final next Sunday. TATLER JACK MINOR C CHAMPIONSH­IP FINAL

Rathmore 3-9 Cordal/Scartaglin 0-8 RATHMORE won the Tatler Jack East Kerry Minor C Championsh­ip title against Cordal/Scartaglin last Sunday.

Played in Dr Crokes field, Rathmore god off to a dream start notching up 1-4 in the first quarter, the goal by Ian Cremin on the 14th minute. Cordal/Scartaglin opened their account at the start of the second quarter with a well taken point but Rathmore conitnued their dominance and a Dean Fitzgerald goal in the last minute of the half gave Cordal/Scartaglin a mountain to climb. Score at the short whistle Rathmore 2-6 Cordal /Scartaglin 0-2.

On the restart, Cordal /Scartaglin pointed, but Rathmore sealed their victory on the 40th minute with a third goal, Mark Ryan on target. Play moved from end to end and there were a scatter of points three for Cordal /Scartaglin and four for Rathmore to leave the final score: Rathmore 3-9 Cordal Scartaglin 0-8.

Johnny Brosnan, Vice Chairman of the East Kerry Committee presented the cup to Rathmore joint captains, Naoise Clifford and Donal Moynihan. Under 21 Semi Finals

THE East Kerrry Under 21 Championsh­ip has reached the semi-final stage.

On Sunday next Glenflesk host Spa in the ‘A’ championsh­ip semi-final. The winners await the outcome of the second semi-final between Dr Crokes and Rathmore, which will be fixed for the next available date.

The ‘B’ semi-final sees Gneeveguil­la host Firies at 12 noon. The winner plays Killarney Legion in the final on Sunday, December 4 at 12 noon, at a neutral venue.

Cumann Na mBunscoil

KNOCKANES NS team defeated Bulian Siar NS in the three teacher county final last Wednesday night in Austin Stack Park.

The scoring power of the Glenflesk school team proved vital in the decider defeating a spirited Bualian Siar team. Fossa NS defeated a gallant St Olivers NS team in the Division 1 final.

Both East Kerry teams played superbly on the night with extra time needed to decide a winner. Fossa NS won the title with a great team display. St Olivers NS team losing at the close of play by a small margin. Congratula­tions to all players and management teams on a job well done.

Award 1 Youth Course

THE Award 1 coaching course was completed last Saturday in Firies GAA club grounds.

Coaches that took part were delighted with the content over the three days. Thanks to Vince Cooper and PJ Reidy (GDA) for organising the well run event. The quality of the external speakers was superb with James Foley (Kilcummin) and Arthur Fitzgerald (Firies) delivering excellent modules. Alan Ringland (ITT) gave a fantastic presentati­on. Thanks to Jerome Crowley (Firies) for his assistance during the course.

Sympathy

WE extend sympathy to East Kerry Committee Chairman Tim Ryan, family relatives and friends on the passing away of Tim’s father, Tim Ryan.

We also extend sympathy, on the passing away of Brendan Ashe, Gneeveguil­la, to the family relatives and friends Brendan was a referee and officiated in many games for East Kerry Coiste na nÓg; we extend sympathy also on the passing away of their aunt Síle O’Shea, to Pat O’Shea, Dr Crokes, and all the O’Shea family, relatives and friends.
