CRAOBH CHOMÓRTAIS CHIARRAÍ THEAS VENUE : PORTMAGEE DATE: SUNDAY 20TH NOVEMBER 2016 RESULT : PIARSAIGH NA DROMODA 1.07 to SKELLIG RANGERS 2.09 There were a number of switches to the Dromid line-out this week which certainly paid dividends in the first half. While the hosts were first on the scoreboard with two points from frees in the first six minutes, it was not long before the scores were equalled. The Pearses were dominating in most parts of the field and certainly looked the hungrier in the first half. There were numerous opportunities to push ahead but unfortunately their attempts were either falling short or going wide. Dromid were one point behind as the first half was drawing to a close but a high ball in to Tomas Ó Curráin resulted in a goal. The half time score was Dromid’s 1.04 to Rangers 0.05. Rangers clawed back the lead within three minutes of the second half and another converted free from Ciarán Keating put Skellig ahead. Dromid drove on and regained the lead. However, two goals against the run of play in the last five minutes of normal time ensured a definitive win for Portmagee. The game was again refereed by Brendan Griffin from Clounmacon. The final score was Piarsaigh na Dromoda 1.07 to Skellig Rangers 2.09. Piarsaigh na Dromoda : Brian Ó Laoire, Shane Ó Conchubhair, Padraig J. O’ Suilleabháin, , Dominic Ó Súilleabháin , Donal M. However their first score came from their top scorer Ciarán Keating after three minutes and he was to score all of their points in the first half. Dromid forwards had a number of opportunities in the first half but none of the forwards managed to put the ball between the posts. It was the two frees won by Criostóir Ó Faircheallaigh that gave Niall Ó Sé and Cathal Ó Nullain the opportunity to keep Skellig in sight for the first half. All of the Dromid backs performed well under the watchful eye of goalie Brian Ó Laoire as they withstood constant pressure from the opposition. An injury to Tomás O Curráin in the second quarter meant that he had to be replaced by Donnacha Shine Ó Súilleabháin who put his mark on the game instantly. A free awarded to Skellig in the thirtieth minute gave them a two point lead going into the second half. The half time score was Dromid’s 0.02 to Rangers 0.04.. The number of wides throughout the game by both sides was disappointing for the large crowd but nevertheless both sides were as hungry as each other to win this first round. While the Pearses were dependant on frees to keep them in the game, Diarmuid and Ciaran Keating together with substitute Micheal O’ Sullivan kept stretching their lead. Dromid’s first point from play came in the last quarter of the game. The re-appearance of Tomás Ó Cúrráin to the full forward line gave Dromid a new lease of life and it was only a matter of time before he was to score a goal hitting the roof of the net from a ball fired in by Donnacha Shine Ó Súilleabháin. The hosts were now in the lead for the first time in the match but losing possession in the dying minutes of the game led to a pointed free form Ciaran Keating bringing the game into extra time. Rangers hit the ground running in extra time and put a further three points on the board but a point from Dominic Ó Súilleabháin gave the Pearses the hunger to drive on and an opportunistic goal from young Kealan Ó Faircheallaigh put them in the lead. It looked like a Dromid win but an equalising point in the dying minutes brought the game to a close. The game was ably refereed by Brendan Griffin from Clounmacon. The final score was Piarsaigh na Dromoda 2.07 to Skellig Rangers 0.13. It is all to play for once again next weekend and the winners of this replay will meet Ballyfoilmore in the Semi-final.
