UNDER 16: Laune Rangers made it three wins from three in the Mid Kerry Under 16 Competition on Sunday afternoon with a defeat of Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar in JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin. The visitors took the lead in the 5th minute with a free, but they failed to capitalize on a period of pressure with a couple of missed frees in the following minutes. Laune Rangers eventually somewhat settled into the game and points from Daragh O’Connor & Dáire Cleary gave them the lead before the visitors tied the game up again. Shane Doona edged the home side ahead on the quarter mark with a point to leave Laune Rangers leading by 0-3 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Dáire Cleary had the first goal chance of the game in the 18th minute, only to see his shot at goal glance over the bar for a point. This was soon cancelled out by another Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar free but Rangers finally created some daylight between the sides with their first goal in the 25th minute, as Eoin Clifford finished well to the net following a Donaghy-esque catch and pass by full forward Roan Moriarty. Daragh O’Connor added a point a minute later that proved to be the last score before the short whistle. The Half Time score:- Laune Rangers 1-5, Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-3. Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar opened the 2nd half scoring with a point but it was quickly cancelled out by Shane Doona before Rangers scored their second goal of the game. Midfielder Kevin Fitzpatrick passed long towards Roan Moriarty but both he and the visiting goalkeeper failed to get a touch on the ball and watched it go straight into the net. Substitute Gabriel Griffin was only on the field a matter of minutes before he got himself on the scoreboard with a well taken point to increase Rangers’ lead before the visitors got back into the game when they were awarded a penalty. The spot kick was dispatched successfully to leave Laune Rangers ahead by 2-7 to 1-4 with fifteen minutes to play. Mark O’Connor pointed a free for Rangers before Cromane/Glenbeigh/ Glencar responded with a point from play. This would be the visitors’ last score however, as their efforts at goal proved unsuccessful, while Rangers also missed the chance of another goal when Daire Cleary’s shot was put behind for a 45. Mark O’Connor added two more point for the hosts before the final whistle to put some gloss on the scoreline. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-10, Cromane/ Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-5.
