Council says it’ll be fair on greenway
KERRY County Council has said it will ‘deal fairly’ with landowners on all matters in relation to the South Kerry Greenway project and has assured that this commitment will extend in particular to accommodation works requirements.
This assurance came in response to a question by Councillor Michael Cahill at a recent South and West Kerry Municipal District meeting.
“Every effort will be made to deal with genuine and reasonable requirements in a fair and generous manner,” the response continued, adding that the council wishes to discuss the implications of the project on landowners, and to look at what will be required to deal with affected parties.
Cllr Cahill has welcomed the council’s comments and described generous accommodation works as vital to what he described as ‘Kerry’s biggest ever tourism project.’
He went on to claim that some politicians had advised landowners ‘not to allow Kerry County Council Officials onto their lands and to ‘call the Guards’ if officials insisted.
“This is shameful advice and does not do our county or our people any favours” Councillor Cahill added.
Meanwhile, staying with the issue of greenways and the Tralee Fenit Greenway in particular, The Walk The Line Group is organising a walk this Sunday afternoon.
The walk will depart St Brendan’s Church on Sunday, December 4, at 2.30pm. Assemble at 2.15pm.
