2016 has been a very successful year for Tralee Triathlon Club and on Saturday last the club gained even more success when club members won national awards at the annual Triathlon Ireland Awards.
Joanne Allman, from Ballymacelligott, in Tralee won Volunteer of the Year at the gala awards ceremony at the Marker Hotel in Dublin on Saturday last.
Joanne was race director for this year’s very successful Tri Kingdom Come Triathlon in Fenit which had almost 400 participants.
She was nominated for Volunteer of the Year by club members for her role as race director but also for her time and commitment to the club throughout the whole year.
Not only did she organise the club’s triathlon but she also organised the New to Tri night to encourage more people to join the club.
Allman also organised the Slip to Shore swim for beginners as well as taking the position of social officer on the triathlon committee.
Joanne was thrilled to be nominated and to receive the award.
“I am overwhelmed and honoured to receive the award. This has been a great year for the club and this success is down to the huge team effort in the club. I want to thank everyone who helped out and together we have a wonderful club to be proud of.”
Tralee Triathlon Club was also on the podium at the Triathlon Ireland Awards with club member, Cillian Tierney, winning two awards on the night for his success in the 2016 Triathlon season.
Cillian’s performance in the sport this year has again proven that the Tralee teenager is a talented young sportsman.
The 18-year old took second place in the Super Series 2016 and he also won came third overall in the National Championships Standard Distance.
Tierney also won the came first in the National Duathlon Championships this year and he was presented with this medal ahead of the Triathlon Ireland National Awards on Saturday.
Also garnering more success for the club was Seamus Hoare who won his age category in the National Series gaining him a place in the World Championships in Rotterdam next year.
He attended the awards ceremony to collect his medal for his success in the 65-69 category in the National Series.
Chairman of Tralee Triathlon Club, John Quilter, says that he is delighted for the winners.
“The awards are so well deserved. We are very proud of all our club members and thrilled with their success at the awards.”
