A local library is an important part of community life as it offers a focal point for public lectures and research, as well as being a hive of imaginatio­n just waiting to be explored by adults and children alike. Becoming a member of your local library is easy: just bring along proof of your name and address (e.g. a household bill) and complete the applicatio­n form.

Membership is free and you can borrow up to 12 books for 3 weeks. Choose from adult, children or teenage books, fiction or non-fiction books, large print books or audio books.

• Home Library Service Free online services are available to library members and they offer an invaluable resource for researcher­s and students. Sources include: Newspapers Online- which gives you access to over 250 newspapers from Ireland and around the world.

Irish Newspaper Archive contains dozens of historical newspapers dating back to the 1800s; Genealogic­al records; download eBooks and audio-books; learn a language online; E-Training online and reference enquiries and homework help with online Encyclopae­dia Britannica.
