Kestrels defeat puts Killorglin top of table

MEN’SNATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Kestrels 67 KSV Killorglin 93

KEANE’S Supervalu Killorglin are Basketball Ireland National League table toppers following their win over Kestrels in Carlow IT last Saturday.

On his debut Damon Jones opened the scoring of the game followed swiftly with on target shooting by Declan Wall adding three three-pointers. KSV were definitely off to the stronger start leading by 10 points after 6 minutes play. Kestrels closed the gap during the final minutes to finish the quarter trailing 22 to 26.

The second quarter Kestrels opened the scoring, with both teams trading baskets for the first five minutes. With just over six minutes on the clock Keane’s Supervalu were marginally ahead 30 to 31. Ian McLouglin and Garni were impressive coming to half time Garni commanding under the board and generating 8 points through rebounds. Killorglin lead at half time 42 to 48.

During the third quarter Killorglin outscored Kestrels 11 points to 18 extending their lead to 14 points by the end of the quarter. Damon Jones our new American was impressing all in the hall with his moves, ease in scoring, while showcasing his natural ability and talent. Killorglin led 53 to 67 going into the final ten minutes.

During the final quarter James Weldon was able to use his bench with all players registerin­g scores in the final minutes and played a critical part in keeping the lead stable. Some great defence by all players kept Kestrels to 14 points in this quarter with KSV notching up 27 with Conor Flynn, Cian and Mark O Shea all adding to the tally.

A great performanc­e by Keanes Supervalu Killorglin who remain undefeated this season and things are looking good for next weekend’s cup quarter final. Top scorers Keanes SV: Damon Jones 30, Declan Wall 21 and Garny Garcia 17. Kestrels: Christophe­r Teasley 24, Mantas Vilimas 12. Next weekend is the Basketball Ireland Hula Hoops Cup quarterfin­al weekend and we have two teams competing. On Saturday December 3 Keanes Supervalu men travel to play Team Kilkenny in The Watershed tip off of the Presidents cup on is 7pm. On Sunday December 4 attention turns to the Killorglin CYMS Under-18 men. Having qualified as winners in their pool the U- 18 Men have home advantage over Templeogue in the Hula Hoops Cup quarterfin­al at 2pm. All welcome and entry is free.
