West Kerry gets a raft of Clár funding

-

SCHOOLCHILDREN crossing the road, adults seeking exercise, walkers heading for Mount Brandon and the users of Annascaul Sports Centre will all benefit from a raft of Clár funding which was announced last week.

Some of the money will help pay for exercise equipment for adults and the elderly, which is to be located in the Dingle marina area. The idea for this came from Cllr Seamus Cosaí Mac Gearailt who saw similar equipment in Spain when he was walking the Camino and thought it could be put to good use in Dingle.

Clár is providing €30,000 of the €37,500 cost of the equipment with Kerry County Council making up the balance. Cosaí said he expects the equipment to be in place by next summer at a location yet to be agreed with Harbour Master Nigel Collins.

Meanwhile, funding of €16,000 has been granted to provide road markings and speed safety signage at Scoil Smerwick in Muiríoch and in Annascaul €25,000 is to be spent improving the road to the local sports centre. Clár is providing €20,000 of the money needed for the job with the remainder being contributed locally.

Road widening is also planned in Baile Breac where funding of €45,864 from Clár, topped up with €11,466 from the county council, will pay for work to improve access to the car park used by people climbing the western side of Mount Brandon.
