The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Handel’s Messiah to send spirits soaring at Killarney performance
ONE of the greatest works of classical music ever written is set to send spirits soaring for Christmas at a special performance in Killarney.
The Kerry Chamber Choir and Orchestra will perform the enduring piece in a concert at the Franciscan Friary in Killarney on Sunday, December 11 next at 8pm, offering music lovers the opportunity to get in the perfect Yuletide mood.
The performance will be given by the Kerry Chamber Choir and Orchestra along with solists Aisling O’ Carroll (Soprano), Martha O’ Brien (Contralto), Patrick Hyland (Tenor), David Howes (Bass) and Vivienne Johnson (Trumpet) under the baton of Aidan O’Carroll directing from the keyboard.
“We have assembled a superb multi award winning team of young soloists – all professional singers – and the Chamber Choir can sing Messiah standing on its head,” Aidan told The Kerryman.
Indeed the Kerry Chamber Choir and Orchestra made their debut in April 1992 with a soldout performance of the Messiah at Siamsa Tire. They have since performed it on many occasions in Tralee, Killarney, Cahersiveen and Listowel and have recorded two DVDs of the work.
Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Friary Book Shop or directly from Kerry School of Music.
The concert begins at 8pm on and admission is €19/€15
