Christmas Tree of Remembrance

-

KILLORGLIN’S diaspora have never been far from the thoughts of the town’s citizens with emigration having made its mark in Killorglin the same as every other town and village. But it’s the great lengths a town will go to in honouring and remembering its diaspora that’s the measure of its worth, and Killorglin is never found wanting in this regard. Killorglin recently hosted a very successful ‘Webinar’ event at the CYMS Hall; an event that used technology to interlink simultaneously with Killorglin’s diaspora from all over the world.

Christmas is a time when we remember those no longer with us and this year Killorglin have organised a special ‘Christmas Tree of Remembrance’ on December 17th at 7pm. Locally known as the ‘Big Tree’ in Library Place, this promises to be a truly special evening of reflection with some of your favourite Christmas Carols, followed by mulled wine and mince pies. Christmas is about remembering loved ones and Killorglin Chamber Alliance will light up the Big Tree with a short Ecumenical Service to follow in order to remember Killorglin citizens that are no longer with us, or indeed are at the other side of the world and won’t get home for Christmas.

You can get your memory cards in the following locations: Jone’s Euospar, Bunkers Restaurant, The Brand Geeks, and Keane’s SuperValu. They cost €10 and this will support the Irish Pilgrimage Trust. You simply write your loved one’s names on the card and they will be placed on the Memory Tree that evening symbolising the true spirt of Christmas in memory of those who can’t be with us.
