O’Mahony and Walsh answer Munster call for Inter-provincials as Murnane is only Kerry hurler in Daly’s squad

-

AIDAN O’Mahony and Tommy Walsh should play a significant part for Munster in Saturday’s Inter-provincial semi-final this weekend.

The two Kerry men were named in manager Ger O’Sullivan panel for Saturday’s meeting with Ulster in Parnell Park, Dublin.

O’Mahony has been a great servant for Munster in the Inter-provincial series down the years, while Walsh was somewhat of a surprise inclusion given that he didn’t finish this season as an inter-county player.

The Kerins O’Rahillys man came off the Kerry panel after this year’s National League campaign, and wasn’t part of the squad for the Championship this year.

Focusing on his club football with O’Rahillys as he tried to re-adjust back to Gaelic football after five years in the Australian Football League and suffering a serious hamstring injury, Walsh will see this weekend as an opportunity to put himself back into Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s plans for 2017.

Most of the Kerry football squad in currently in New York on a short team break, which greatly limited the options open to O’Sullivan for including more Kerry footballers for the trip to Dublin this weekend.

In football, Clare have six players, Tipperary and Cork have five each, Waterford have three and there are two from Limerick in addition to O’Mahony and Walsh.

Leinster will face holders Connacht, with Munster facing Ulster at Parnell Park with the final taking place there the next day.

Meanwhile, Kilmoyley’s Tom Murnane is the only Kerry hurler to figure in Anthony Daly’s hurling panel for the inter-provincial series this weekend.

Reigning Munster and All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, lead the way with nine players followed by Waterford with eight players, Limerick with five, Clare with three and Cork and Kerry with one each.

Munster will meet Ulster and reigning champions Leinster will face Connacht in a double bill at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh with the following day’s final fixed for Semple Stadium.
