Meehan is new Kerry Camogie chairperson

TOM Meehan is the new chairperson of Kerry Camogie County Board after being elected at the Board’s AGM last Sunday. The Cillard club man saw off the challenge of Fiona Casey (Causeway) to fill the vacancy left by out-going chairperson Joanne Diggin.

Meehan’s election was one of several positions to be filled at the AGM at the Kerins O’Rahillys club house with over 20 people in attendance.

Vice-chair David Doyle, Secretary Michelle Costello, Child Welfare Officer Laura O’Sullivan and Development Officer Patrice Diggin did not seeking re-election.

Diane Jeffers was elected Vice-chairperson unopposed.

Secretary Michelle Costello is stepping down after three years at the helm. There were no nominations for Secretary and the AGM will be reconvened on December 12 at 8pm in Kilmoyley Community Centre.

The new Development Officer is Mairead Fitzgerald who takes over from Patrice Diggin who did an outstanding job all year.

Child Welfare Officer Laura O’Sullivan also stepped down after a few years in charge and this position is to be filled by the new county board in 2017.

John Leen remains on as Treasurer, while Registrar Tee Reil O’Connor was re-elected unopposed. The delegate to Munster Council is Sarah Leahy.

Secretary Michelle Costello outlined the year involving all Kerry teams and clubs as well as individual successes by the girls on the playing field. She also gave a summary of our two major fundraisers this year - the Golden Ticket and the Golf Classic - alongside the quiz and the numerous Church gate collections.

John Leen’s treasurer’s report outlined the finances in detail. He thanked the hardworking committee involved in the Golden Ticket campaign alongside the golf classic for the work they had put in to making these two fundraisers a success.

Out-going Development Officer Patrice Diggin give a summary on where Kerry Camogie is at in terms of developing camogie in schools around north Kerry and how they are being supported.
