Skellig manager offers no excuses

-

FOR Skellig Rangers things didn’t materialise as planned, and their manager Mike Brennan acknowledged that they fell short against a superior St Marys combination.

“We probably gave it our best shot. From our point of view our bigger players didn’t show up on the day, we were playing a very, very strong St Marys side. We probably gave away three or four handy frees in the first half which the Marys will convert on any given day.

“We had one or two chances of scores, our very first attack in the very first minute, it just didn’t happen unfortunately. We were slow onto the breaking ball today, it’s a strong point in our game but it didn’t happen for us today.

“(St Marys) were more hungry for the ball. It didn’t just happen for the Marys lads today, this is a thing which is going on for the last four, five years, they’re building something special here. They have got the rewards. They will score for fun any day if they are given the room and they got that room today and punished us.

“Outside of Brian (Hickey), Stephen (O’Sullivan) and Aidan ‘Dash’ (O’Sullivan) we’re young. Our average age is twenty-five down to minor, which is good. The problem is to hold on to them.

“We were in Division Two, we were unfortunate the last couple of years with injuries. We came down to Division Four, that would be a priority to get out of Division Four, and hopefully be back here in the South Kerry final next year.”
