County Convention just a week away
THE annual convention of Kerry GAA will take place in the Rose Hotel on Wednesday evening next December 14th commencing at 7:30pm.
Tim Murphy of Brosna will be rubber stamped as the new Chairman being the only nominee when nominations closed. He will replace the outgoing Chairman, Patrick O’Sullivan whose 5 year term in the chair comes to an end at Convention. Eamonn Whelan will take over the role of Development Officer vacated by the Brosna man while Terence Houlihan of Laune Rangers, who will be a new face at the top-table, will fill the Coaching and Games officer post vacated by Whelan. Bernie Reen will be appointed Children’s Officer having been recommended by the outgoing executive while all the other officers are returned unopposed.
A number of officers will commence their final year in office before vacating their positions under the five-year rule; Christy Killeen and Joe Crowley (Munster Council delegates), Leona Twiss (Cultural Officer), Ger McCarthy (Hurling Officer) and John O’Leary (PRO).
All-Ireland winning teams presented with their medals
THE three All Ireland winning teams from 2016 were presented with their winners medals at a function in the Rose Hotel on Saturday last.
County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan did the honours as the Kerry Minor footballers, who completed a three-in-a-row of All Ireland titles, the Kerry Minor hurlers who completed a five-ina-row of All Ireland titles and the Kerry Junior Footballers who won the All Ireland for the second year in a row with a new team were honoured.
All of the backroom teams were also honoured while Vincent Linnane, caretaker of Austin Stack Park, was made a special presentation by Minor trainer Peter Keane.
Outgoing chairman, Patrick O’Sullivan received a prolonged standing ovation from those present in recognition of his service to Kerry GAA while Minor football team Liaison Officer, Christy Killeen, who served with all three Kerry Minor winning teams, also received a standing ovation for his contribution to those sides.
