KEANE Supervalu Killorglin travelled to Kilkenny last Saturday to take on Team Kilkenny in the President’s Cup quarter-final losing on a scoreline of 83 to 72.

Kilkenny were on a mission and got off to a flying start going ahead 7-2 after two minutes. Following some good defence from Garny, Ian McLoughlin and Damon Jones Killorglin brought it back 7-6 but Kilkenny responded immediately and extended their lead 20 to 8 with only Damon Jones adding to the score.

Following a time out by James Weldon and with the introduction of Darragh Jones, Saulius and Seamus Brosnan the first quarter finished Kilkenny 23 Killorglin 12.

Garny opened the scoring in the second quarter but with Kilkenny running the ball long and fast Killorglin couldn’t match the pace. Kilkenny managed to outscore Killorglin in the second quarter by 11 points again. Some great play by Darragh Jones adding 6 points during the second quarter, as well as Ian McLouglin and Damon the first half finished Kilkenny 51 to Killorglin 31.

The quarter continued with teams trading scores with Killorglin adding 16 to their tally but Kilkenny still outscored again. The score going into the final quarter was 69 to 47.

Killorglin needed to muster up some scores early in the quarter if they’d any chance to get it back, and did with Damon Jones and Ian McLoughlin, Declan Wall and a free throw from Andrew Fitzgerald with no score from Kilkenny in the first four minutes. Killorglin brought it back to 13 points difference. Kilkenny added a basket but Killorglin continued with Ian McLougnlin adding 4, followed by Garny.
