Life by the Laune… It’s been a memorable 2016

-

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that for people living in Killorglin, life by the Laune can sometimes feel as though they’d just received the greatest gift possible from the man above. Killorglin is a town that punches far in excess of its weight and when it comes to welcoming visitors and putting on a good show. Even if we place to one side the world-famous Puck Fair for a second, the town still showcases the sort of festivals other towns crave. Flavour of Killorglin and K-Fest are but two examples and when one adds to the mix the enthusiastic endeavour from its local people, the Tidy Towns committee and Killorglin Chamber Alliance, it’s easy to see why life by the Laune might sometimes feel that bit more special.

Christmas can be a powerful and sentimental time; a time when our emotions surrender to thoughts of family, friends and a time to take stock of another year in the life of our community. 2016 was a busy one for Killorglin and in the decades to come, historians will discover that few places did as much to make their local story a part of the national 1916 narrative as Killorglin have.

But Christmas is also a time when thoughts of home have a sharper focus and Killorglin got the festive season off to a brilliant start last weekend when pulling out all the stops. The town’s lights are now in full sparkle and keeping the chilly, night-time skies of December firmly in check. Local businesses have also put on their best festive face in the countdown to Christmas and with this in mind, it’s important to support your local businesses this time of year: shops, restaurants, bars and many more besides have left no stone unturned throughout the year in delivering a top class service to the locals of Killorglin and Christmas is an ideal time to reciprocate this effort by keeping custom local. You’ll not only be helping to create jobs, but also to sustain existing jobs right where it matters most.
